چکیده

Elimination is a basic algebraic operation which geometrically corresponds to projections. This article describes using the numerical algebraic geometric concept of witness sets to compute the projection of an algebraic set. The ideas described in this article apply to computing the image of an algebraic set under any linear map.

Some Conditions for Characterizing Minimum Face in Non-Radial DEA Models with Undesirable Outputs

The problem of utilizing undesirable (bad) outputs in DEA models often need replacing the assumption of free disposability of outputs by weak disposability of outputs. The Kuosmanen technology is the only correct representation of the fully convex technology exhibiting weak disposability of bad and good outputs. Also, there are some specific features of non-radial data envelopment analysis (DEA...

Membership tests for images of algebraic sets by linear projections

Given a witness set for an irreducible variety V and a linear map π, we describe membership tests for both the constructible algebraic set π(V ) and the algebraic set π(V ). We also provide applications and examples of these new tests including computing the codimension one components of π(V ) \ π(V ). Additionally, we also describe computing the geometric genus of a curve section of an irreduc...

Numerically intersecting algebraic varieties via witness sets

The fundamental construct of numerical algebraic geometry is the representation of an irreducible algebraic set, A, by a witness set, which consists of a polynomial system, F , for which A is an irreducible component of V(F ), a generic linear space L of complementary dimension to A, and a numerical approximation to the set of witness points, L ∩A. Given F , methods exist for computing a numeri...

Pragmatic identification of the witness sets

Among the readings available for NL sentences, those where two or more sets of entities are independent of one another are particularly challenging from both a theoretical and an empirical point of view. Those readings are termed here as ‘Independent Set (IS) readings’. Standard examples of such readings are the well-known Collective and Cumulative Readings. (Robaldo, 2011) proposes a logical f...

On the Identification of Quantifiers' Witness Sets: A Study of Multi-quantifier Sentences

Natural language sentences that talk about two or more sets of entities can be assigned various readings. The ones in which the sets are independent of one another are particularly challenging from the formal point of view. In this paper we will call them ‘Independent Set (IS) readings’. Cumulative and collective readings are paradigmatic examples of IS readings. Most approaches aiming at repre...
